Palm Beach, Florida - Former president Donald Trump held an extravagant party at his Mar-a-Lago estate on New Year's Eve, joined only by his county club's members and a handful of his political allies. But perhaps there were many that didn't accept the invitation.
Trump has been known for throwing huge end of the year parties while hosting a handful of high-profile press organizations, celebrities, and politicians, but this year's NYE event was perhaps disappointing in comparison.
Ahead of the party on Saturday, Trump, who recently announced he would be running for president again in 2024, invited media outlets for a slot before the festivities he called "media availability."
Reportedly, none of the major cable news networks showed up to cover the event, including media allies such as Newsmax and Fox News.
The twice impeached former president spoke for five minutes to what little press was there, mostly about his campaign and how poll numbers for him are looking "fantastic."
"We need a strong border, and we need it now," he said in a video taken on the red carpet. "We also have to bring back the economy, we have to get rid of inflation. It's destroying our country."
One reporter attempted to ask about Florida governor Ron DeSantis, who is perceived to be his biggest opponent for the Republican nomination, but Trump evaded the question. Another reporter asked about the upcoming anniversary of the January 6 Capitol riots, which prompted Trump to leave the red carpet all together."
